Every site needs a blog, right? Well, JekyllFaces is built on Jekyll so blogging is baked right in. But it takes some work to format, segment, and display those posts. JekyllFaces adds several templates for displaying groups of posts, like recent posts, featured posts, and post archives.

As more and more people use their phones and tablets to access the web, it’s important that your site be accessible and easy to use on those devices.

I’m not a fan of the standard error page that appears when the page you navigated to could not be found. So, I made up some more interesting 404 pages. As I get time, I’ll try to add more.

Just because your site is serving static content doesn’t mean that it can’t be interactive as well. Comments are a great way to engage your visitors.

One of the aspects of Jekyll that has always bothered me is that when you update any of the site’s settings in the _config.yml, those changes don’t show up until you stop and start the Jekyll server again. For JekyllFaces, I wanted any edits that you make to be immediately reflected in the running server.

You’ll find this post in your _posts directory. Go ahead and edit it and re-build the site to see your changes. You can rebuild the site in many different ways, but the most common way is to run jekyll serve, which launches a web server and auto-regenerates your site when a file is updated.

Jekyll is a great blogging platform, but to make it really shine, you need to make some tweaks. We’ve made those tweaks, and we’ve done so in such a way as to avoid using custom plugins, so your site can easily be hosted on GitHub Pages.
